Built for the hunt… not for the kill.

You know, you spend all your time efforting towards something significant, and your mind gets so locked into making what you’re doing the best it can be, and then, the next day, the world keeps spinning round and round.

(This is Fike writing this blog by the way, lest you think I’m speaking for Dana & Sean as well)

I’ve been thinking a lot this weekend about February 21st.

People were asking me all week last week, “Are you excited about the big concert?” and, yes. I am. I’m excited about the potential of what could happen Friday night. Aside from being momentous to us (Fike & Dana), it’s the first “Friday Night Heights” event in our city. Several other churches and their worship pastors & teams will be with us Friday night to celebrate unity and diversity in the body of Christ.

I’m excited to elevate good people like Jared Anderson and the Patterson’s to the audience they’ll have a chance to play for. I’m excited for them. I’m happy that they’ll get heard Friday night.

I’m excited about the songs on this album. I’m excited that they’ll finally have a chance to get ‘out there’ in the public forum. Any ‘discovered’ artist will tell you that their path was privy to God’s hand and His use of regular people to get the collective word out about the music. Nobody just arrives. People have to sing the praises of art for it to be noticed or appreciated. So, I’m excited to allow God to work while we rest. (Of course I don’t mean to indicate that we’ll be napping while God does all the work. I’m simply saying that we’ve done our due diligence, and we’ll continue to, but it’s now more about what God does WITH the music than what we can drum up with our sheer force of will)

I’m excited to tour these songs. I’m excited to share them. I’m excited to brag on Sean. I’m excited to brag on Chiceaux. I’m excited to brag on Matt Vincent and Mark Toupin… Ben Kennedy and Robbie Seay… Clarence Church and Chad Tipps… Stu Smith and Taylor Johnson. So many GREAT musicians collaborated to create an album I’m truly honored to have participated in. I’m excited to stand back and worship with Dana while she leads us in ‘Ascend to Heaven’. I’m more than a little excited to perform “Broken With All My Heart” at CD Release. I get to rap. It can’t get much better than that.

I’m excited to reveal what’s “behind the curtain”… you’ll have to come to the concert to find out what I mean.

But, as a visionary leader, I’m probably most excited about the unknown “next.” I’m built more for the hunt than for the kill. When I am in the midst of a big project, I lock eyes with it until we’ve moved from “hunt” to “kill.” Friday night is in one sense a big “kill” for me. But, I’m built for the hunt. So, I’ll be looking greatly forward to 2/21, because there’s going to be all sorts of new terrain for us to travail. (Yes, I meant travail… hard work is ahead of us). And, I relish the challenge.

We just recently signed a contract with Indie Extreme. We couldn’t be more excited. Kathy Douglas (CEO) is very excited about our music. She assures us that with a lot of hard work and consistent effort, we’re going to see some bright days ahead. Influence, impact, ministry, and opportunity are heading our way.

I’m very excited about that.

Dana, Sean and I humbly request your prayers. We need your support. Please pray that we stay firmly gripped by the grace of God. We want only to be great stewards of these gifts He’s given us. We’re not trying to become rock stars. We don’t covet fame. We don’t need applause. We’re simply praying that God would expand our influence. We believe there is healing and grace in these songs. We believe that lives can be changed by worshiping God… and we want to be there when it happens!

We love you! We appreciate you! We hope to see you on Friday night for the concert. Peruse the site a bit. Chiceaux’s made some changes and additions, and will continue to in the weeks to come… chord charts, videos, lyrics, ringtones… fun stuff!

We’d love for you to take some pictures at the concert on Friday night and email them to fike@fikeanddana.com… maybe we’ll post some of your shots!

Please drop us a line and let us know how we can pray for you!

Fike & Dana (and Sean)
